Sheehan and Mackenzie
On February 28th I walked across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge with a dear friend of mine. She wore a long white dress and carried a bouquet of wildflowers. Her name is Mackenzie. Her groom patiently awaited her arrival at the first tower with a grin from ear to ear. His name is Sheehan. I could feel the anticipation and excitement in both of them as they joined hands with rainclouds overhead. This was the first time it had stopped pouring all week. They recited vows they had adapted from their favorite old soul ballads and exchanged rings. Within just a few minutes, Sheehan and Mackenzie were man and wife.
After celebrating with tiny cans of champagne the newlyweds attached a token of their love onto the bridge with a golden heart padlock and threw the key into the bay. No one could stop smiling. Just as it started to rain we headed to breakfast and freshened up. We continued to The Conservatory of Flowers which included a butterfly enclosure. It was such a dream. I could feel their joy every second. They were finally married and it had been such a long time coming. Sheehan and Mackenzie met in 7th grade, were star crossed lovers in high school and reconnected by chance two years ago just walking down the street. I always knew there was something special between them.
When Mackenzie first asked me to do this, I think I freaked out about 20 billion times over again. I was the only person who knew for 3 months. This was my first elopement and an epic one at that. I love that they didn't want to wait. I love that there was never a single beat of hesitation. I feel so honored to have been there, let alone to have captured it. This couple is incredibly precious to me and so many other individuals. Every ounce of me hopes these images can take you on a journey to that day.
I'll leave you with a special quote which appears on the cover of their announcements:
"When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." - Nora Ephron
